Dar es Salaam, the capital city, is connected by air to all the major cities in Africa and the world. There is usually one flight per day both ways between Nairobi and Dar es Salaam and seats are easily available given a day or two’s advance booking. Many international airlines operate regular flights to and from Dar es Salaam including British Airways, Emirates, Air India, Ethiopian Airlines Gulf Air, Royal Dutch Airlines, Kenya Airways, Egypt Air, Air Malawi, South African Airlines, Swissair, Air Tanzania, Air Zimbabwe, and Yemen Air.

International flights operate between Nairobi and Arusha (Kilimanjaro International Airport) and also between Mombasa and Zanzibar. Charter flights can also be easily arranged to commute to any of the places of tourist interest. Overland bus routes connecting Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda are many, while ferry services operate from Lake Tanganyika linking Tanzania with Burundi and Zambia via Kigoma and Mpulungu. There are steamer services from Lake Victoria connecting Mwanza (Tanzania) with Kisumu (Kenya), Mwanza with Port Bell (Kampala and Kalemie (Zaire) with Kigoma (Tanzania). Rail services between Tanzania and Zambia operates through the Tazara line originating from Dar es Salaam.

For those wishing to take a sea-route, it is possible to take dhows between Mombasa, Pemba and Zanzibar but it is more reliable to take a sea-ferry operating from Zanzibar, Pemba, Dar es Salaam or Mombasa.
